On New Year's Eve, the audience at the National Opera will be treated to the ballet-fantasy "Evenings on a farm near Dykanka to the music of Yevhen Stankovich.
The play was previously called "The Night Before Christmas" and was staged in 1993 by Viktor Litvinov. In 2015, a new interpretation of the plot familiar from childhood affected not only the name of the ballet, but also absolutely all aspects - costumes, scenery, performers of the main parts and the musical part. Thanks to this, the production turned into a real ballet extravaganza, when a plot rich in romantic and comic scenes unfolds against the background of the exceptionally imaginative, albeit rather complex, music of Yevhen Stankovich.
In the musical canvas, the use of popular folk themes "Schedryka", "Rejoice, Earth" and citing more modern popular works is justified, but each of these melodies has its own dramatic function, each image has its own leitmotif and character. This is one of the best ballets, in which deep knowledge of folklore and classical dance is combined, hundreds of stylized costumes are sewn. Along with the pictures of the village Christmas night with its singing and merriment, there are fantastic images of evil spirits, heavenly stars... Spectators are waiting for a spectacular performance, rich in folk customs and full of irony.
