Almost forgotten dishes of Ukrainian cuisine

This is a simple cookie that was made from fresh dough on an egg and whey or buttermilk. The dough for verguns was prepared as a thin cake, cut into rectangles or rhombuses, in which an internal incision was made. Then they twisted the inside of the cut once or twice and fried it in boiling oil until golden. Verguns were prepared by girls at evening parties, housewives for carolers, midwives for grandchildren.

On March 6, Kyiv will host a charity screening of the documentary film "20 Days in Mariupol" — a nominee for the "Oscar" award in the "Best Documentary" category.

The event will take place in the Cinema House (Saksaganskogo, 6), in the Red Hall at 18:30 p.m.

100% of the funds collected at the event will be transferred to the purchase of drones for cinematographers-aerial scouts of the film association "Bávylonʼ13" Ivan Bannikov and Yaroslav Pilunskyi.

A reminder letter will be sent the day before the event. The number of seats is limited.

The tape "20 days in Mariupol" was created by members of the Associated Press team, who became the last international journalists in the surrounded Mariupol. They continued to work in the siege and recorded footage that later became the defining images of the war: the deaths of children, mass burials, a bombed maternity hospital and other horrors of Russian crimes.

"20 Days in Mariupol" is the directorial debut of Mstislav Chernov, a war correspondent (with experience in Syria, Nagorno-Karabakh, Libya, Iraq, Gaza Strip, Afghanistan), photographer, videographer and writer. Photographer Yevhen Maloletka and producer and journalist Vasylisa Stepanenko were also involved in the creation of the picture. For their work in the besieged Mariupol, they received the Pulitzer Prize, which is considered the most prestigious in the field of journalism. The film recently won the prestigious BAFTA Award in the nomination "Best Documentary".

The screening of "20 days in Mariupol" is already the second charity event by the film company "Arthouse Traffic" and the film association "Bavylonʼ13" in cooperation with the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine. Thanks to the January screening of the film "Infinity according to Florian" directed by Oleksiy Radinskyi, the organizers managed to attract about 30 hryvnias to collect for the repair of cars.
