KMDA is preparing for the reconstruction of the Kyiv Zoo, the concept of which was developed by the general designer "Kyiv Institute of Urban Civil Design". The main goal of the zoo renovation is to make the Kyiv zoo a comfortable and modern place for family leisure. Oleksandr Spasibko, Deputy Chairman of the KMDA, announced this.
"Today we see the first results of this work - the presentation of the technical and economic feasibility study. In the summer of last year, the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko already presented the concept of reconstruction of the zoo, and it is planned to start in May. The renovated zoo will be very modern and will meet all the standards of European zoos. We will create conditions as close as possible to the natural living conditions of animals. Reconstruction will take place in several stages. The zoo will continue to work during the reconstruction," said Spasibko.
He noted that there was a lot of speculation and various rumors surrounding the Kyiv Zoo.
"The position of the city authorities is unequivocal - the capital zoo will definitely remain where it was located historically. But we will make it better, more attractive, it will become one of the true business cards of our city. I would also like to note that currently 30% of the zoo's territory is unused. After the reconstruction, there will be a significant increase in the usable area," he said.
According to the director of the Kyiv Zoo, Kyryl Trantin, the environment of the renovated zoo will be as close to natural conditions as possible - there will be no noisy attractions, no cages for animals. The zoo will have observation decks, places with a single environment for animals and people, a large and interesting excursion route.
During the renovation of the menagerie, the entire unique collection of plants will be preserved, and the main materials for the reconstruction will be wood, stone and glass.
As the general designer reported, the concept of zoo reconstruction involves the application of the principle of geographical zoning. The following zones will be allocated on the territory of the zoo: exhibition, recreational, research and economic. The first phase of the reconstruction includes the reconstruction of the wetlands, the primate house and the renewal of the central entrance group. The entire territory of the zoo will be accessible to less mobile population groups.
According to the results of the meeting of the section of the urban planning council, the proposals and comments of the architects will be taken into account, the document will be sent for revision. The next stage will be the development of the reconstruction project.
