Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has appealed to Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretskyi with a strong request to transfer Gostinny Dvor to the ownership of the Kyiv community as soon as possible. This historical monument in Podil has been in critical condition for many years and continues to collapse.
Urgent need for emergency response work
A significant part of the building remains unprotected, and the lack of proper waterproofing creates additional risks, especially given the proximity to metro lines. The mayor emphasizes that further delay could lead to irreparable consequences. Currently, the Guest House needs priority emergency and conservation work to stop its destruction.
The city is ready to take responsibility
Kyiv has the necessary financial resources and professional expertise to carry out these works, as well as to prepare scientific and design documentation and further comprehensive restoration. After restoration, it is planned to use the building as a modern multifunctional cultural space. However, for this the city needs to obtain a legal opportunity to invest in the monument, which will be possible only after its transfer to municipal ownership.
A long way to return
The issue of transferring Gostiny Dvor to Kyiv has been raised since 2017, when the Kyiv City Council agreed to accept the building free of charge. The city has repeatedly appealed to the Government on this issue. Only last October, Vitaliy Klitschko appealed to the previous Prime Minister with a request to instruct the relevant ministries to work out a draft order on the transfer of the building. Currently, this issue requires a final decision at the state level.

Its balance sheet holder is the National Reserve "Sophia Kyivska". The object is included in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.
