By the end of the year, the city will carry out work on strengthening the slopes of landfill No. 5, located in the village of Pidhirtsi in the Kyiv region, and will fill 9 hectares of the landfill. In general, it is necessary to allocate more than 20 million hryvnias for priority works at the facility. This was stated by Petro Panteleev, deputy head of the KMDA, during an on-site meeting on the territory of the landfill.
We will remind you that on October 27 of this year, the Kyiv City Council adopted a decision "On solving problematic issues related to the operation of solid household waste landfill No. 5 in the village of Pidigirtsi of Obukhiv District, Kyiv Oblast". According to the adopted document, KMDA is currently working on the creation of a commission to solve problematic issues related to the operation of the landfill in Pidigirtsy.
It will include deputies of the Kyiv City Council, representatives of the city state administration, heads of communal enterprises, representatives of the Obukhiv district state administration, rural communities of Pidhirtsy, Velikiy Dmytrovychy, Gvozdivka, and Khodosivka. It is also planned to involve experts from the State Institution "Institute of Environmental Geochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine", State Institution "Institute of Public Health named after O.M. Marzeeva of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine". The commission will be headed by Petro Panteleev, Deputy Chairman of the KMDA.
"We have already started preliminary work at the landfill. We rely on the authoritative opinion of the representatives of the institutes, which have currently started researching the map of the landfill and will provide their recommendations on its further strengthening and sprinkling with loam - soil with the addition of clay and sand. At the same time, soil and drinking water research will be conducted in the surrounding settlements," said the deputy head of the KMDA during the meeting.
He noted that the city also plans to restore the second stage of operation of the "Rochem" equipment for the processing of wastewater (filtrate).
"Currently, the equipment ensures processing of 80% of new leachate and does not allow it to spill into the environment. But we strive to start safe processing of the volume of leachate that has accumulated at the landfill during the previous years of operation," explained Petro Panteleev and emphasized that the city will ensure the transparency of the commission's work and report on all results to the community of Kyiv and the communities of the settlements located around the 5th training ground.
