The President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė together with the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze and the Deputy Chairman of the KMDA Oleksiy Reznikov opened the Lithuanian Square, located in the very heart of the capital - on Volodymyrsky Proezd, opposite Sofia Kyivska.
"25 years ago, relations between Ukraine and Lithuania were restored. However, we always kept in touch, especially in difficult times. Lithuanian Square is a symbol of our friendship," the President noted.
Oleksiy Reznikov, Deputy Chairman of the KMDA, added that relations between Ukraine and Lithuania are very strong and go back to the distant past.
"From the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania until today, we feel how strong is the support of Lithuania, and now, personally, Mrs. President Dalia Hrybauskaitė, who, together with our Polish neighbors, are essentially Ukraine's advocates in the Council of Europe and in the European community in general. They always stand on the side of Ukraine's independence in these stormy, turbulent times for us: this is also their position regarding the aggression of the Russian Federation, and regarding the visa-free regime, etc.,” stressed Oleksiy Reznikov.
The deputy head of the KMDA added that the choice of the place for the opening of the Lithuanian Square is symbolic, since Sophia Square is not only the center of the capital, but also the heart of our country, one of the iconic places. Oleksiy Reznikov thanked the members of the Kyiv City Council for the unanimous positive vote for this decision.
By the way, a Ukrainian park has recently appeared in Lithuania. It is in Vilnius, where Taras Shevchenko spent several years in a row, and where the monument to Kobzar was erected.
