The Kyiv metro station "Petrivka" was renamed to the "Pochayna" station, and the "Kurenivsko-Chervonoramiyska" line to the "Obolonsko-Teremkivska" line. This decision was made today, February 8, at the plenary session of the Kyiv City Council.
"The renaming was supported by the people of Kyiv during public discussions on the "Unified web portal of the territorial community of the city", which lasted from March 1 to May 1 and from May 29 to July 29, 2017. We initiated such a decision in accordance with current legislation, in particular, in accordance with the Law "On Condemnation of the Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes in Ukraine and the Prohibition of Propaganda of Their Symbolism," commented the director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure, Serhiy Simonov.
Let us remind you that the Kyiv metro station "Petrivka" is the 20th station of the "Kurenivsko-Chervonoarmyska" line, located between the "Obolon" and "Tarasa Shevchenko" stations. In the 1920s and 1930s, Podil was called Petrivka (Petrivsky district) - after the surname of the Soviet political figure, head of the VUCVK G.I.Petrovsky. Now they decided to rename the station to Pochayna station - after the Pochayna river, which is one of the oldest in Kyiv.
The "Kurenivsko-Chervonoarmiyska" line is historically the second line of the capital's underground. This name reflects the non-existent route, but the initial design of the line, because it does not pass through Kurenivka today. As a result of the construction of the Obolon massif, a decision was made to change the route of the line. The second part of the name - "Chervonoarmiiska" - ceased to correspond to the terrestrial toponymy after the renaming of the "Chervonoarmiiska" station to "Palats Ukraina" in 1993 and the return of the historical name Velyka Vasylkivska to Chervonoarmiiska Street in November 2014.
