Updated subsistence minimum indicators, approved by the Law on the State Budget, came into effect in Ukraine on January 1. Since dozens of state payments are tied to this social standard, their amounts were calculated automatically - citizens do not need to additionally contact social security authorities or the Pension Fund.
The overall subsistence minimum increased by 289 UAH (or 9,9%) compared to the previous year and currently stands at 3 209 UAH.
New subsistence minimum sizes by category
A separate protection coefficient has been established for each socio-demographic group of the population:
| Social group | Size in 2026 | For comparison (2025) |
| Total indicator (per person) | 3 209 UAH | 2 920 UAH |
| Able-bodied persons | 3 328 UAH | 3 028 UAH |
| Persons who have lost their ability to work (retirees) | 2 595 UAH | 2 361 UAH |
| Children under 6 years old | 2 817 UAH | 2 563 UAH |
| Children aged 6 to 18 years | 3 512 UAH | 3 196 UAH |
What payments and settlements were affected by this increase?
Changing the subsistence minimum automatically changed financial parameters in several areas:
-
Pensions: The minimum old-age pension has increased (it is equal to the subsistence minimum for persons who have lost their ability to work - UAH 2,595), as well as the related overtime allowances.
-
Support for families with children: The amount of assistance to single mothers and caregivers has increased, since the maximum amount of these payments directly depends on the subsistence minimum for a child of the appropriate age.
-
State aid: Payments for low-income families and persons with disabilities from childhood have been transferred.
-
Alimony: The minimum guaranteed amount of child support per child, which cannot be less than 50% of the subsistence minimum, is now 1 408,50 UAH (up to 6 years) and 1 756 UAH (from 6 to 18 years old).
-
Labor field: The indicator for able-bodied persons (3,328 UAH) now determines the upper limit of wages subject to mandatory indexation, and is also used to calculate the Tax Social Benefit (TSB) and the maximum base for calculating the Social Security Contribution.
All indicators set in the State Budget will remain unchanged throughout the current year.
