People's deputy Serhiy Shakhov may turn out to be a real surprise in the capital elections. He sympathizes with immigrants, and the so-called "new Kyivans", these are people who moved to the capital from other regions of the country in search of a better life, but settled down and now have a Kyiv residence permit.

This was announced by political expert Bohdan Bondarenko on the air of the TV channel "Nash".

Analyzing the trends of local elections, the political scientist noted that the majority of mayoral candidates are oriented towards native Kyivans. Indeed, there is such a meme that only a Kyivan can win the capital elections. But none of the elected mayors of Kyiv during the entire period of independence was from Kyiv.

"According to the statistics of the State Registry, 30 people have changed their election address in Kyiv alone. The issue is that the displaced people want to see "their" person in power in the capital," said Bondarenko.

The expert stated that in the capital, the rights of the "new Kyivans" are somewhat limited, compared to the rights and opportunities of native residents.

"For some reason, forcibly displaced people are treated with contempt, using the term "immigrated" to them. They are talked about less than anything. Although, in fact, immigrants are the main labor force of Kyiv. And the trend in these elections will be the one who can win the votes of the immigrants. Of the candidates currently registered in the capital, I have seen such rhetoric only from Shakhov (Serhiy Shakhov - current People's Deputy from Luhansk Oblast, candidate for mayor of Kyiv - ed.)," the political expert added.
