The capital authorities will continue to invest in the purchase of modern communal public transport, so that it becomes an alternative to dangerous minibuses. This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko on the TV channel "Kyiv".

He noted that the number of road accidents involving minibuses has increased recently.

"There is reason to say that, unfortunately, these are already systemic things, and we should stop them," the mayor said. He noted that the capital authorities asked the government to cancel the moratorium on inspections of carriers, and the State Transport Safety Service, on the conviction of Vitaliy Klitschko, should increase the authority of the city authorities regarding such inspections.

"After all, it is about safety, health and people's lives," said the mayor of Kyiv.

According to Vitaliy Klitschko, most minibuses today do not meet safety requirements, and this may lead to an increase in the number of road accidents. Therefore, the mayor of the capital emphasized, regular inspections and control over the work of carriers are extremely necessary.

"Our task is not to fight with minibuses, because private carriers will perceive it as administrative pressure. And do everything to replace old and dangerous minibuses with modern, comfortable, cheap, safe public transport," he noted.

Vitaliy Klitschko emphasized that this is why the capital's authorities invest significant funds in the purchase of new public transport.

Over the past two years, 100 new modern buses, 17 trolleybuses and 45 trams with 100% low floors, air conditioners, Wi-Fi were purchased. 15 metro cars were modernized.

"We will continue to do everything to ensure that both public transport and roads in Kyiv correspond to the European level," said Vitaliy Klitschko.
