Students of KNU named after Taras Shevchenko, who joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale invasion, demand the dismissal of rector Volodymyr Bugrov due to numerous corruption scandals during martial law. This is stated in the corresponding petition on the website of electronic petitions to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
It is reported that recently institutions of higher education and their heads have been appearing regularly in reports of law enforcement agencies, mass media and anti-corruption investigations. In particular, this concerns Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. During the full-scale invasion, the rector of KNU named after Taras Shevchenko bought an apartment in an elite residential complex, a Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and other real estate.
It is known that students of KNU named after Taras Shevchenko, who are defending Ukraine from the Russian invasion, in the second year of the full-scale invasion, they learned from the mass media about the investigation into the embezzlement of millions of hryvnias in the repair of shelters with the participation of the KNU leadership and the arrest of a contractor for attempting to bribe law enforcement officers.
"Already now, in January 2024, we have to read with complete incomprehension about frauds with budget funds for the food of cadets and calculate how a kilogram of frozen hake, which is purchased for the military for 95 hryvnias or bought in a regular store for 150, can cost the management of Shevchenko University 333 hryvnias," the message says.
We will remind that in January 2024, based on media reports about the inflated cost of food purchases for cadets, T. Shevchenko KNU conducted an internal audit.
The author of the petition appeals to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine regarding early termination of the contract with Taras Shevchenko KNU rector Volodymyr Bugrov for embezzlement of funds for the Armed Forces, corruption and immoral behavior.
"As a graduate of the University that year, who joined the Defense Forces from the first day of the full-scale invasion, I want to live in Ukraine, where the rule of law and democracy reign, and corruption and embezzlement are put behind bars, not in the new SUV of the rector of KNU, bought during a full-scale invasion," the author of the petition noted.
At the beginning of February 2024, the rector of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Volodymyr Bugrov, who appeared in the investigations of purchases for military cadets at T. Shevchenko KNU, asked the Office of the President to remove the petition for his dismissal from the website.
