The theater on Podil should organically fit into the environment of Andriiivsky Uzvoz, according to Volodymyr Bondarenko, chief of staff of the KMDA.
He reported that last week a working group was formed at the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture to resolve the situation surrounding the reconstruction of the Theater building in Podil.
"When forming the group, the city took into account the wishes of all stakeholders of the process, so we expect that the working group will work constructively and effectively and will provide professional, non-committal proposals regarding the further fate of the project," Volodymyr Bondarenko emphasized.
According to the results of the negotiations, 19 people joined the group, including representatives of the theater and patrons, as well as representatives of public and professional organizations. In particular, these are representatives of the NGO "Community of Andriiivskyi Uzvozu", the National Union of Architects, the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Monuments, the Institute of Problems of Contemporary Art, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, the union of theater actors, and the league of Kyiv tour guides.
As the chief of staff of the KMDA noted, the decision regarding the further fate of the project must meet clear and understandable criteria: the organic appearance of the theater in the environment of the Andriiivsky Uzvoz, compliance with legislation and the efficiency of the use of funds of the people of Kyiv.
"We emphasize that the city's goal is to protect the historical area, and we will continue to defend the interests of Kyiv, having public support and legal leverage. The building will not be put into operation until it receives the approval of Kyiv residents. And this is our clear position," Bondarenko emphasized
We would like to remind you that the Town Planning Council gave its recommendations regarding the need for changes in the facade of the Theater and the relevance of public hearings back in 2015. Currently, there are a number of conflicting opinions regarding the modern building of the theater, but everyone agrees on one thing - the Podol Theater needs a new building.
