There has been a thick fog with smoke in Kyiv since the night, visibility is limited. The State Emergency Service considers this a natural phenomenon. It is not known where the smoke came from.
"From the evening of January 16 and the morning of January 17, the fire and rescue service of the capital received calls from citizens and mass media that there was a smell of fire in the air and heavy smoke was observed. The head office of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the city of Kyiv appeals to residents and guests of the capital not to cause panic. The fires that broke out in the territory of Kyiv were insignificant and could not have affected the appearance of such smoke in the air," the statement of the State Emergency Service says.
The probable cause may be an increase in air humidity and a lack of wind, which is why such a phenomenon called meteorological haze has arisen. The presence of this haze increases the visualization of smoke. In addition, according to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, fog is expected in most regions of the country, including in Kyiv, with visibility of 200-500 m.
